Supporting the Future: Experience at the Christ’s Hospital School Careers Conference 2024

Tuesday, 25th June 2024

I recently had the pleasure of participating in the GE Careers Conference, an event dedicated to guiding and inspiring students as they consider their future career paths. This gathering was a brilliant opportunity for professionals like myself to share insights and experiences with the next generation, and I was honoured to be part of it.

The event began with a keynote speech from 4pm to 5pm in Big School, featuring the renowned composer Tim Benjamin and the talented actress Jadesola Odunjo. Listening to them recount their journeys from their time at Christ’s Hospital to their successful careers was not only inspiring but also a fantastic way to set the tone for the rest of the evening.

From 7:30pm to 9pm, the main Careers Conference took place, also in Big School. The guests, including myself, were grouped into 16 different career areas. This structure allowed the students to explore two fields of interest in depth. Each session was designed to maximize learning and interaction:

• Session 1: 7:30pm to 8:15pm • Session 2: 8:15pm to 9pm

I had the chance to share my career experiences and the journey that led me to where I am today. It was wonderful to see the students so engaged, asking insightful questions and eager to learn more about what their own paths might look like after CH.

Each meeting began with a brief introduction from the guests, where we discussed why we enjoy our work and what students can expect if they pursue a similar career. This was followed by a Q&A session, which was facilitated by a teacher to ensure a smooth flow of discussion.

Supporting these young minds and being part of the Company of Entrepreneurs at such an event was incredibly rewarding. It was clear that the organisers put a lot of effort into making the day memorable and beneficial for all involved. The students were well-prepared, having received booklets detailing the guests and their respective groups, which helped them make informed decisions about which sessions to attend.

Participating in the GE Careers Conference was about more than just sharing professional insights; it was about inspiring the next generation and helping them envision their futures with confidence. The event was a perfect blend of information, inspiration, and interaction, and it was a privilege to support the kids and the Company of Entrepreneurs.

I left the event feeling uplifted by the enthusiasm and potential of the students. It’s clear that with the right guidance and opportunities, they have bright futures ahead.

Looking forward to seeing how these young talents shape their careers!
