Last Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Brewers’ Hall in Aldermanbury Square was the perfect setting for an unforgettable evening: the September Court Dinner 2024. This marked my first-ever black-tie event, and I must say, it exceeded every expectation!
An Evening of Elegance and Fellowship
Known as the “louchest” dinner in the annual calendar, the evening blended sophistication with a warm, welcoming spirit. As the final formal domestic event hosted by the Master Entrepreneur, the dinner held a unique charm—celebrating both reflection and optimism while showcasing the strong sense of fellowship that defines these gatherings.
Music to Stir the Soul
A highlight of the evening was the outstanding performance by talented young musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama’s jazz faculty. Their melodies filled the hall, sparking joy and rounds of enthusiastic applause from the guests. The Company’s commitment to supporting these budding musicians adds a meaningful touch to an already extraordinary event.

Moments of Cheer and Mischief
True to tradition, the evening was filled with laughter and camaraderie. From heartfelt conversations to moments of playful mischief, it was a night that struck the perfect balance between elegance and cheer.
My Black-Tie Debut
For me, this event was particularly special as it was my first black-tie affair. Dressing up, connecting with Freemen and guests, and immersing myself in the lively atmosphere made it an evening to cherish. The warmth and fellowship of the Company made me feel right at home.
Looking Ahead
With its limited seating of just 54 places, this dinner is always in high demand, and it’s easy to see why. From the Freedom Ceremony at 7 PM to the carriages at 10:30 PM, every moment was thoughtfully planned and seamlessly executed.
If you haven’t attended this event before, I highly recommend marking your calendar for next year. Between the excellent company, delightful music, and the unique opportunity to reflect on the past while looking to the future, the September Court Dinner truly stands out as a highlight of the Livery calendar.
